Congratulations to Faiz and Ayu

I was going to write a bit about Ayu (this will follow suit), when I came across the news that Faiz has been selected to become the ambassador/icon for PLKN. Well, it got me to think that - why wasn't the first cosmonaut, Dr Sheikh Muzaffar, selected to become one? Why Faiz? As it is, he is still "in the oven", in the making - to even be the No 2 in space. But, he is now the one - chosen.

Being selected as the PLKN icon is not something so big to many. But think about it again, would not it be apt to have Dr Sheikh Muzaffar as the icon? To many, Yes - if we are looking for someone with good looks etc. But, Najib was fast in combatting future questions by saying "Kita memilih seseorang individu yang boleh dijadikan ikon kepada generasi muda, melantik seseorang yang melalui proses luar biasa, keberanian yang luar biasa yang tidak dilalui orang lain." (I would not care to translate this). But, did Dr Sheikh not undergo such process with undivided commitment, and with absolute confidence?

I guess they were looking for someone with charisma, someone that can carry the title as the cosmonaut and having the influence towards the youths. Who cares that Faiz will be the 2nd now, for all the people care, they are looking for someone that will be able to carry the status instead of enjoying the limelight as stepping stone for international career in modelling. To me, Faiz is the force to be reckoned with. Dr Sheikh is fast losing its popularity unless, BN would take him and put him as a candidate somewhere in the upcoming general election (well this was done before, for example Dr Mashitah etc.)

Simply put, no one cares anymore what our FIRST cosmonaut is up to these days (it is not our fault, look at what he has been associating himself to lately, Google it or look for his videos on Youtube). I think that is also blessing in disguise for he is free to roam about and search for the best opportunity to re-shine again. All the best to him.

+ Ayu

Speaking of lime-light, shining star and all that, I was happy to receive a text from a friend in Nigeria (not the ones in Malaysia, mind you), that Ayu won the One in a Million II reality show. I have featured some of her videos before, my attempt to support her. I always support the underdog anyway, in whatever that is. She has come a long way to the stage she is on now, and we all do hope she'll keep her feet on the ground all the time. I was gutted when she was not selected in Season I and now she has proven what she is capable of. Well done, Ayu.
